What is hand therapy?
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) credential assures patients that they are being treated by a therapist who is highly competent and an expert in upper quarter (shoulder, elbow, wrist, & hand) rehabilitation.
Did you know there are 27 bones in the hand & wrist alone? Did you know there are over 50 muscles from your shoulder to your hand? Did you know there are also ligaments, tendons, fascia, nerves, arteries, veins, capsules, discs, and cartilage in the upper extremity?
Hand therapy involves a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the anatomy, pathology, and biomechanics of the upper quarter (Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand). It also involves a strict knowledge of current treatment practices, including surgical and conservative treatment approaches.
Hand Therapy involves a specialized assessment and treatment plan to reduce pain and restore range of motion, strength, sensation, grip, and fine motor skills to the upper limb in order to restore functional ability and support the return to activity.
